We have developed a new method of Image Analysis that allows us to characterize nonwovens in conjunction with our new scanning electron microscope, which has the ability to produce high magnification/high clarity quantitative imaging.
In one analysis, both fiber and pore data are obtained to produce:
- percent area covered by the fibers
- basis weight in grams per square meter
- average fiber diameter, including fiber intersections
- a fiber-diameter histogram from fiber segments in-between intersections, including mean and standard deviation
- a pore-size histogram, including mean and standard deviation.
In addition to image analysis, we can also measure physical properties such as:
- Hydro-head (for compact 3D, not 2D)
- Frazier porosity (for compact 3D)
- Basis weight and basis weight distribution by die-outs
- Tensile strengths (GMT, etc.)
- Mullen
- Absorption (TAPPI methods)
- And many more tests available
