Now Serves the Nonwoven Industries - March 18, 2005

APPLETON, Wis. -Integrated Paper Services, Inc. is pleased to announce new capabilities for measuring the microscopic structure of nonwovens materials: coverage, porosity, basis weight, and fiber diameter distributions.

We have developed a new method of Image Analysis that allows us to characterize nonwovens in conjunction with our new scanning electron microscope, which has the ability to produce high magnification/high clarity quantitative imaging.

In one analysis, both fiber and pore data are obtained to produce:

  1. percent area covered by the fibers
  2. basis weight in grams per square meter
  3. average fiber diameter, including fiber intersections
  4. a fiber-diameter histogram from fiber segments in-between intersections, including mean and standard deviation
  5. a pore-size histogram, including mean and standard deviation.

In addition to image analysis, we can also measure physical properties such as:

  1. Hydro-head (for compact 3D, not 2D)
  2. Frazier porosity (for compact 3D)
  3. Basis weight and basis weight distribution by die-outs
  4. Tensile strengths (GMT, etc.)
  5. Mullen
  6. Absorption (TAPPI methods)
  7. And many more tests available
